A powerful nor'easter tore through the region over the weekend bringing near hurricane force winds and driving rain. HFD members were kept busy responding to over 20 storm related calls for assistance from Saturday evening 3/13 through Tuesday morning 3/16. The responses included downed power lines and trees, hazardous conditions due to basement flooding threatening utilities and fire alarm activations due to widespread power outages in town. Power remained out in several sections of town until late Monday evening.
Also during this period, HFD responded to 2 mutual aid calls for assistance: one to Saddle River for a basement fire early Sunday morning in which the FAST Team responded and another early Tuesday morning to a second alarm garage fire with exposures in Waldwick.
Many thanks to all the weary, sleep-deprived department members who responded to these alarms!
